My Shoes are Dead

(More blog entries from ryan)

Sooooooo dead...

My running shoes are dead. Toast.

When I was a kid and would complain about something, my grandmother would tell me of the times when she had to put cereal boxes in her shoes to cover the holes in the soles. I imagaine this is about what my running shoes feel like.

At least I'm not in the slightest bit injury prone so that flat shoes could potentially cause a problem. (gulp.)

The real trick for me is finding a pair of shoes that actually fits. I have really strange feet. To the point that not even all the shoes of a specific brand will fit me. Really weird, and pretty annoying. The shoes I have now fit great, but I do 90% of my running on trails, so I'd like to get a trail shoe. Unfortunately, the Montrails and Salomons we sell at Great Glen Outfitters don't quite fit me right. So I'm on a quest. Wish me luck.

When my shoes get that dead my knees start to hurt so I seem to have this really cool built in warning system. Unfortunately the bells start going off when the shoes are less than a year old so trail running is starting to get expensive! But what a cool time of the year to be out on the trails - literally and scenically.

Just got back from a run...and I know what you mean about the knee thing...ouch. Also, I forgot to mention the smell from these old boys...dear Lord!

Saucony has a great pair of trail running shoes...style 1842-1. Now if I could just get out the door!

@elk - Thanks for the tip. I'll take a look at those. I'm headed out on a shopping spree tomorrow. I'm now 100% officially ready to retire these shoes after my 1:25 trail run today.

You can thank your parents for your weird feet. And I will let your grandmother know that the cereal box story is now in print. She will be very happy.

I'm still working on a way to work in her fried oatmeal stories!

Fried oatmeal? Tell me more, I love oatmeal in all of it's forms. I'll trade her for my grilled egg salad sandwich recipe.
