Time to give it up

My daily commute morphs with the seasons

I love the Pinkham B Road, this narrow, mostly gravel road dating back to the 1800's reminds me of the way NH used to be.  It was the main route in those early days before the Town of Gorham existed and most travelers would have been going to Randolph or points west.  When Gorham started developing and the railroad arrived what is now Rt 16 was built and the Pinkham B Road was bypassed for the most part.  But for those of us in Randolph or west who like the country roads, it's a wonderful piece of the drive.  It also cuts off about 30% of the drive time from my house in Randolph to the Glen every day.  Tonight I made the last of my fall drives home using this route.  The Pinkham B isn't maintained for winter travel and although the "Closed" sign hasn't gone up yet, the ongoing storm today has effectively closed it for me.  Even my wonderful Audi has a problem when the snow is so deep that it's billowing up over the windshield at anything more than 10 mph - ok, the car didn't have a problem but I did since I couldn't see the road.  This is a very good thing, it means that winter has really arrived and Great Glen will be opening tomorrow!

I like my drive to work too. It doesn't have the same kind of feel as Pinkham B, but it is fun in all types of weather. If takes me 23 minutes on the good days and that is with a coffee in my lap. As much as we both want this snow and this season to start, you know the old quattro will be back on the dirt road that horse drawn carrages used to rally.

The morning sun hitting the snow covered Presidentials is definitely something that I love about my commute to work.
