A night ski

There's nothing like a ski by headlamp
After the big storm of Sunday we were crankin' to get out and enjoy the new snow, but lots happening at GGT prevented that from happening. On Sunday I spent several hours grooming so when the usual big winds came we'd have the snow nailed down to keep it in place, then early Monday morning Clayton brought out the big groomer for the first time and laid down some beautiful trails. During the day today a new member of the crew started, snow needed to be pushed around or off depending on location and the usual office duties called, not to mention the massive winds that were blowing through the area; all of which conspired to keep me off the trails during the regular operating hours. Ah, but the evening hours were unspoken for so Sue and I donned headlamps and were finally able to get out and enjoy these incredible MID-DECEMBER conditions. It was amazing! We were out skate skiing for an hour, even though Sue's lamp joined us for only 45 minutes. It really is as different as mountain biking by headlamp is in summer. There're no distractions since you're only seeing were your head is pointed which is mostly straight down the trail. You feel the snow better, you sense your body position better, it's easier to focus purely on the skiing. And with conditions like they are right now, as contrite as it sounds, it was magical.
