The Cragway Drift

The mountain is the boss.

Quite often, the mountain reminds us who is in charge. This was one of those times.

The good news is that the Road is still in good shape to 4.5 miles, and, right now, all systems are go for opening on Saturday. That being said, the snowfall really piled up a Cragway. We had "broken through" on Monday, but the new snow covered much of the work we had done. So, the Crew has been clearing Cragway again.

I was able to get back up the Road today, and I was able to get a look at the Cragway Drift, first hand. And, well, it's huge.

Hey Ryan, What a superb job blogging the Auto Road's snow removal and preparation! The You-Tube videos are fantastic! I've driven up to the summit 3x and love the road, the view, the experience. (personally, I prefer it over Pikes Peak) I've also climbed the Grand Teton's Mt. St John out west and have climbed down to the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon 3x on extended periods by permit. It's wonderful to have such an awesome road right here in the NE at MW for people of all ages who can't physically do it on foot. Yes!!

I'll second that - Excellent job! I've really enjoyed these videos and you've captured the feeling up there. It makes me anxious to get up to the mountain. Thank you for the videos!

WOW WOW WOW!! That is some kind of drift. Seen them out west, this one really ranks right up there. It must be a real thrill to go up and clear it out. But looks also dangerous, then again it is Mt. Washington. She is a rare and strange mistress. IT is such a wonderful place to visit. IT MUST be just grand to work there. Thank you to those who do.

BEAUTIFUL & AMAZING FOOTAGE! Thanks for the YouTube videos. Cannot wait to view the rest. We vaca in the whites many times throughout the year - some day trips - some extended. YOU CAN NEVER TIRE OF BEAUTY THE ENTIRE AREA BRINGS! We are fortunate. Hope all will enjoy!
