New Snow?

Mt. Washington has a good curve ball.
This week's weather brought snow to Mt. Washington. And, why not? It's mid-May after all? As always, the mountain is doing its best to remind us who is in charge.
The Road Crew was back to clearing snow again this week—not exactly what we had in mind. Even though we had the snow to deal with, they were still able to finish off the major repairs on the 6 Mile. It's looking good, and I'm impressed.
We're still on target for opening to the summit this weekend, but no guarantees. Remember those curve balls? Well, we never quite know what's coming next. Be sure to check back here for the update.
Now, I certainly don't want to sound like the snow was all gloom and doom. Quite the contrary, it was a beautiful day up on the mountain. The rime ice was stunning.

Again, we're fairly certain the summit will happen this weekend, but be sure to check back just to be sure. Hope to see you soon!

Thanks for the updates and the blog. I'll be at Mt. Washington for the first time on Monday and I've got my fingers crossed that the weather will cooperate and you'll be able to finish opening the road!

First off, thanx for all the hard work you guys put into opening the auto road. I am president of River County Durty Dubz(RCDD) We are a VW/AUDI club out of Lewiston/Auburn Maine. We are planning our first Mt. Washington auto road cruise for sunday May25th. We are really hoping that the weather will cooperate with your crew so that we can come enjoy the views from atop new england. Keep up the hard work, and we will see you on sunday!

i was a little kid when my dad stopped the car above the treeline. "No, we're not going to the summit". That was 45 years ago. What do you think I should do?

Your website it EXCELLENT!!! Thanks for the info. Our first trip to MW was 30 years ago, on foot. This time we are driving to the top and hiking down!

Please, I hope you leave an update this Friday evening if you'll be open to the top.... Skiiers like me are waiting for that first opening. Thanks to everyone for their hard work. How about organizing a volunteer crew for next year...We'll help you!
