Ahhhhh - snow! Welcome back!

<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">Sure I know . . . “it’s early,” but . . . I love to see the first snow show up again in the fall. Yesterday Pinkham Notch was a totally different world from both Gorham and Jackson, the two closest towns to the north and south of us. The air was thick with big, wet flakes at Great Glen. The snow piled up on the grass and stuck to the trees. At the bottom of the Notch it was merely damp from rain sprinkles, and in North Conway the roads were dry and the sun was out!</div>

<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">Today I hiked up Mt. Crescent in Randolph. The snow line persisted from about 2500 feet elevation and I knew I’d be up into it before the summit. Exactly what I was looking for! The trail was covered with damp leaves at the start. One bonus to hiking at this time is that with the leaves off the trees, one can see much more through the forest than in summer. The trail steepened and I reached the snow. The sun was out and causing it to melt and clumps to fall from the trees around me. The fluffy white of a fresh snowfall lying thickly upon the bright green of balsam fir branches is one of the prettiest scenes I know. And besides being beautiful I’m filled with excitement and hope—a new ski season is just around the corner.</div>
