Trail Running Series - Week 3

Running is hard

(See, I told you I was upping the posting.)

Week 3 of the Montrail Fall Trail Running Series is in the books. Man, what a great evening to run! Just about the perfect temperature and crystal clear skies. It was a little chilly standing around...I mean stretching...afterwards, but I'll take it.

Not much to report from my run, other than that it hurt. I've been running fairly regularly, which is defined as three or four days a week with a day or two of hiking each week, but I haven't been doing anything that even resembles speed work. Lots of shuffling. And hiking helps you on the uphills, but it really only helps you run slow up the hills. But anytime I try to run fast my body gets really confused. "Um, excuse me, Ryan, we got rid of all the fast twitch muscles a long time ago, so feel to tone it down." It is strange because there is a gear or two that used to be there that I just can't find. Every time I search for it, things feel really weird. Just like I'm forcing it. It's a really strange feeling. Maybe I'm just getting old.

Anyway, it was a good run. I was happy with my time. Although I did have an unfair competitive advantage. I had someone videotape other people running the course, so I could study their tendencies. Looks like I'm going to be fined and miss out on the raffle. The commissioner is angry.

Yup, running is hard especially at GG. BUT . . . Mr. 25:37 . . . you call that "getting old." Man, you were flying out there. Those fast twitch muscles were firing you just didn't know it. Great job !!

Thanks Ros...I mean Ed's Buddy. I think I knew the fast twitch muscles were firing or at least trying to. That's when it felt like my legs were going to detach at the hip.
