<![CDATA[Open to the Summit!]]>
5/27/06 Saturday, 9:00 am - After a month of working on the upper road we were able to open for private vehicles and guided tours to drive to the summit this morning. (We will open to motorcycles later this week.)A remarkable change considering what the mountain looked like on Monday. As always this is subject to change depending on the weather. Guided Tours operate from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, private cars from 8 am - 5 pm.]]>

<![CDATA[From the Summit]]>
Thursday afternoon, 5/25/06. This is a view to the west from the top of the stairs coming out of the summit parking lots. As you can see there is still a substantial amount of snow that we are dealing with in order to get open for cars to the summit. It seems likely at this point that we will have guided tours available to the top on Saturday, and unlikely that we will get open to private cars to the top at that time. We're working to get fully open for all vehicles but that cannot happen until we have full two lane width free of ice and snow and reasonably dry gravel sections. The Glen View Cafe, gift shops and climbing wall will all be open this weekend - come on up and say "Hi".]]>

<![CDATA[Great Weather for Bike Week]]>
A few beautiful days have brought the bikes north out of Laconia and up the Auto Road for one of the signature rides in the North Country. Monday's version of the Ride to the Sky was a wonderful success with over 1200 motorcycles making the climb. We'll do it again on Thursday when we close the Auto Road to cars and invite bikes only (and our own Guided Tours!). Then on to the Mt Washington Road Race on Saturday when human power takes over!]]>

<![CDATA[Above the clouds]]>
We've been fortunate to have several days like this in the past couple of weeks where we break out of the valley fog and into dramatic undercast conditions. Typically these conditions arise in the morning when there is a temperature inversion and the cool moist valley air hangs in the low lands until the sun warms it causing it to rise and obscure the mountain or simply dissipate. Note that this shot was taken from Mt Adams so you can see the Auto Road rising out of the fog on Chandler Ridge. Photo by Doug Mayer.]]>
