Ski Attire
Cross country skiing is different.
This recently appeared in my Google alerts:

I know that "articles" on about.com are written to provide the most basic information, but there nuggets in here that are flat out wrong.
For example, "If you already own a downhill jacket, most likely it will be fine for cross country skiing." Um, not really. It would be fine if you want to not move fluidly and sweat a lot.
"What's the difference from downhill ski pants, though? In reality, there isn't that big of a difference..." Um, what?!?!? Alpine boots and cross country boots are pretty much the same, too.
"Women's hats may be more fashionable and colorful, while men's hats might be more conservative." Um, yes, I wear a burlap bag on my head when I ski. Colors are bad.
I just irks me when people who alpine ski, but may have nordic skied a couple times, claim to be experts on our sport. Cross country skiing and alpine skiing are as different as water skiing and alpine skiing. Both sports need snow. That's pretty much where the similarities end. Cross country skiing is different. When in doubt, talk to someone who actually does it.
