Is it hard to be friendly?

I went for another short run today as I still attempt to recover from the race on Sunday. I went to a small trail system a few miles from my house. It's a popular running spot, and I saw four other people out for a twilight run. Each time as the runner approached, I smiled and said, "Hi!" Each time I received no response. HUH? None of these people were running very hard. They weren't panting or weezing. They just ignored me. Is it that hard to be friendly? It was kind of a bummer.

Maybe I just smell bad...
