Running in the Snow

(More blog entries from ryan)

I'm so hardcore.

I had kind of half sorta almost planned to go for a run today. Around 11:00 or so, I looked out my window and realized it was snowing. My first thought was "Well, there's no way I'm running today." Then the devil on the other shoulder said, "You big sissy! Get off your butt and go for a run!" I often listen to the devil.

So I ran in the snow. I got some crazy looks from drivers going by. I'm so hardcore.

Then again, it was a pretty short run, and I shuffled along. At least it was a hardcore shuffle.

Those baffled looks from drivers just conveyed their overall surprise at chancing a rare glimpse of such long toothpick-like turkey legs scrambling along the Maine coast......and especially spotting'em in the open at such a freaky time for those wild critters! Oh, wait that's just a goofy guy getting in shape to do that criss-cross ski thing that people do!

I know what you mean, Ryan. I find it pretty hard to get motivated to go out and run in the dark. But with the light snow we've got here there is a bit of gear use that comes into play so it's a bit more interesting. This mornings run involved my new and ever more powerful headlamp whose name I've forgotten, and a pair of stretch over light cleats for the running shoes. Actually pretty enjoyable considering it was on snow covered pavement on foot and not on snow covered trails on skis.

If you were hardcore, you would run barefoot. Get over it.
