Stone Mountain "Walk Up" trail

Jonesin' for hiking season.

Every spring I start looking forward to hiking, this year I got a head start on vacation. While New Hampshire was getting hammered with a Nor'easter, Brian and I were in Georgia, enjoying the warm weather. Albeit cooler than normal temps but that was the 60s and sunny and that was okay with us.  We were in the southern part  of the state where the mountains are much smaller and while we were visiting friends, I had picked out a few hikes to do.  I guess we would be more apt to call them walks but we enjoyed them none the less.  We hit a few state parks and walked around lakes with the dogwoods in bloom and other lovely scented trees flowering.  We of course made the visit to Stone Mountain and summited in about 20 minutes.  It is a very nice vista and allows hazy views of Atlanta spread out in front of you.  The winds that day could have rivaled Mt. Washington on an average day.  We also visited the new NPS Battlefield at Kennesaw Mountain, which has a small auto road to the summit as well.  (We hiked up)  So now we are back home and know that there is still a fair amount of snow up to the summits...just waiting for it to melt so we can get out there.
